Roll Top Baths: Bringing Luxury to Your Bathroom
Characterised by rolled, soft curves along the top, roll top baths ooze style and grandeur whilst creating a comfortable surface for you to lean against.
History of the Roll Top Bath:
Freestanding roll top baths first came into the public conscious towards the end of the 19th century as bathing became a popular activity. Prior to this, there was a consensus that bathing was an unhealthy activity as dirt could protect against germs.Show More
By the 1880s cast iron roll top baths began being mass produced but due to the lack of plumbing, they had to be filled and emptied manually. Thankfully, you won’t have to do this!
In contemporary society the freestanding roll top bath is fast making a popular comeback, creating nostalgia from the Victorian era: an era which celebrated grandeur. To truly complete the Victorian look, be sure to choose a claw foot roll top bath.
The Benefits of Acrylic Roll Top Baths
All of the roll top baths sold at Splashdirect have been crafted from high grade double skinned acrylic: a durable and lightweight material.
Acrylic is now commonplace in bath manufacturing as the surface is easy to clean, requiring little maintenance, and it’s non-porous so won’t harbour any germs or bacteria. It is also warm to touch and is great at retaining heat, so it’ll keep your water warmer for longer.
Which Style to Choose?
As with all good things, roll top baths don’t just come in one shape and size.
To cater to everyone, we have many different designs, from the traditional slipper bath which has one end slightly deeper than the other, to the double ended roll top design to give you the freedom to bathe at whichever end you prefer.
Whichever style you choose, one thing is for certain: this will be the perfect accompaniment to a period style bathroom.
Don’t Forget the Taps:
Choosing your bath is only the first hurdle; the next thing you’re going to need to do is choose the taps to complete the look. To give you complete control and flexibility of where to situate them, most of our baths don’t have any pre-drilled tap holes.
This will allow you to choose a freestanding tap and create a truly luxurious design.
Installing Your Bath:
Installing a roll top bath doesn’t have to be an arduous task. With a little pre-planning, a little expert advice and all the right tools, you’ll have no problem.
