Steel Baths vs Acrylic Baths

When choosing your bath, manufacturing materials are really a key component. They influence the style and ambience of your bath and also differ in the way that they retain heat. They offer a number of styles and designs. Some people have their favourites, but why not read a bit further to see if we can change your mind?

Steel Baths

Steel baths are the most durable bath option available and are much stronger than iron, plastic or even marble. Thanks to their thickness and durability, steel baths do not allow a quick loss of warmth; they retain heat and allow you to bathe in well heated water for longer. In this way, they are superbly economical. Steel baths also retain colour well and are not subject to weather damage or household products. Even when scrubbed, the steel bath is resistant to damage. The unique surface of the steel bath means that it is not a breeding ground for germs or bacteria and remains hygienic at all times.

The steel bath offers further hygiene by being an easy-to-clean material. In all baths, water cools at a slow pace and requires a top-up from time to time. With steel baths, conductivity is excellent, and the steel bath lends further heat to the cooling water. The downside or topside, depending on which way you look at it, to steel baths is that they are often heavy and require a sturdy base on which to rest.

Acrylic Baths

At first touch, acrylic baths are warmer to the touch than steel baths, and many people find acrylic baths a more comforting option because of this. Just like steel, acrylic baths are durable, although they do not rival the sturdy steel bath in this area. The surface of the acrylic bath is non-porous and, as such, does not harbour any germs, bacteria or mildew. The surface of the acrylic bath is easy to clean, and requires little maintenance. Acrylic baths are perhaps a little more modern than steel baths, but also offer excellent quality and value for money.

Which Bath is Best for You?

Steel baths lean more towards the traditional style and are simply designed; however they are becoming more modern in design. If it’s sleek lines you want, many modern steel baths can offer just this. Acrylic baths are slightly more modern and are a lighter option. Both baths are strong and sturdy, and it’s entirely down to personal choice which one you select. Keep in mind that steel baths retain heat more readily, while acrylic baths are warmer to the touch initially. With Splash Directs vast selection, we know that you’ll find the ideal bath for your home.
