How to Fit Bath Panels
There are many types of bath panels, and many baths in differing shapes and sizes. Thus, it is important to find a bath panel that suits your bath and is
easy to fit. Fitting a bath panel doesn’t have to be a hassle, and our quick overview guide will give you a few handy tips to speed along the process.
Pre-Planning your Perfect Bath Panel
Different baths require different panel installations, and pre-planning can go a long way to saving you time, hassle and money when fitting a bath panel.
We’d recommend building a frame using 50x25mm timber that will enable you to secure your panel to it. Ensure you fit the frame at the correct distance back
from the bath edge to allow for the depth of the bath panel itself. This additional security stops movement that can sometimes occur if something or someone
accidentally falls against the bath panel at a later date. However, a frame is not essential, and it’s possible to install some bath panels by just fixing a
piece of timber along the floor to stop any movement at the bottom and secure the top under the recess of the bath lip.
Securing your Bath Panel
Now you’ve got everything in place, it’s time to check to see how much, if any, of your bath panel needs to be cut down. Where an end panel is being
fitted together with a side panel, keep in mind the thickness of the panels before cutting! Remember “measure twice… cut once”, and ensure the bath panel you
have chosen can be cut to your desired length/height without disturbing its construction. Use a fine blade jigsaw or handsaw (both for acrylic or wood) to
ensure you get a smooth cut. Apply some PVA glue to the cut edge of any wooden panels to eliminate any moisture ingress.
You’re now ready to secure your panel. Mirror screws are ideal and look great, enabling you to remove the bath panel with ease or with suitable glue.
Remember, however you fix your panel you may need to remove it at a later date to change taps, etc.
